A People's History of Schooling
This interactive map shares stories of schooling in Bristol – past, present and future. We chart people’s experiences, hopes, and demands in relation to education in the city. We explore how people have faced, and challenged, racial and classed injustices.
We hope this archive can support dialogue and mutual understanding – building possibilities for educational redress across Bristol. Everyday people’s experiences and knowledges of schooling count; we learn from these stories to imagine reparative futures.
This archive is not only for researchers. This archive is for anyone curious about schooling: past, present, and future. Teachers might use a recording to spark classroom discussion. Community groups might connect stories of past struggles to present-day organising. Families might find echoes of their own histories in someone else’s testimony.
Above all, the archive is an invitation: to listen, to remember, to connect, and to imagine what reparative futures of education could be.
